Information from Malcolm Nunn, Bradfield Parish Council Archivist and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and andand andThis is an image used in slide lectures/ magic lantern shows by photographer Mr. Peacock.andHis notes to accompany the lectures also included some of his experiences while taking the photograph. and and and and and and and and and In another row of houses where the fronts were washed away leaving all the interiors exposed. One boy climbed the chimney and wasandsaved, his mother and a little girl managed to escape from the house but all the rest were lost as the water rose higher and higher until it washed them all away. When I took this view a lot of boys anxious to be photographed went upstairs and with the floor slanting downwards caused them to push each other. They soon got fighting when extra commotion caused the already shaky floor to give way and the boys tumbled into the room below- beyond a few bruises they were not much worse for their fall. From another house a family of six climbed onto the slates where they remained for several hours until someone brought a ladder to get them down.and andFor more information see: and The Great Sheffield 1864and Harrison Ref: 942.74 S The Collapse of the Dale Dyke Dam 1864, Geoffrey Amey Ref. 942.74 SST
