The original shelter was opened in 1932, in which was placed a stainless steel casket, given by Sir Robert Hadfield, containing the names of 4, 898 Sheffield men who made the great sacrifice. The original shelter had to be replaced after World War II and the casket is now in the Mairie of Puisieux/Serre. The photograph shows (in the centre) Lord Mayor of Sheffield Mrs Jackie Drayton.
