3442 was in LNER livery because it has been preserved. Here pausing to take water on the way to Chinley (Derbys) and a rendezvous with a railway enthusiasts' excursion. An engine travelling on its own was described as a 'light-engine'. After 3442 departed the rail tour arrived on Platform 8; with 'Derbyshire Dawdler', the title of the tour, it seemed curious to see an express-passenger engine providing haulage. This was a shining-clean Jubilee class no. 45593, named 'Kholapur'.

Today was the second time this month I had unexpectedly seen a steam locomotive here. This was to be my last Sheffield sighting of a British rail engine on a scheduled passenger service: Holbeck's Black Five no. 45273 arrived mid-morning on a train from Leeds (City) station. There followed a prompt return on another passenger train (whose first stop was Brightside station). This was unlikely to be the final steam visit, as other engines from Holbeck or even later, from Trafford Park shed could have turned up. A possible reason would be to deputize for a failed diesel.
