Todays Station Pilot is pictured between duties. A Station Pilot spent lengthy periods waiting, punctuated by attaching/detaching carriages or parcel vans and shunting these as required. Steinbok was one of Canklowands stable of B1s (although not for much longer: a fortnight after the photographands date the engine was transferred to Doncaster; the beginning of a rundown of Canklowands fleet of engines). Note the nameplates remain in place. |
