Sally Parkin nee Bond was one of 3 sisters and 3 brothers They went to Toronto where Mary her daughter grew up; but after the father left home they deported back to England - returning to Sheffield Mary trained as a nurse, specialising in mental health and obtained a distinction in her exams. Mary stayed at Wadsley Asylum (or South Yorkshire Mental Hospital) for most of her career, going elsewhere mainly for additional training and became Deputy Matron. She was offered the Matron's job but declined as she wanted to stay nearer the patients. The matron was Edna Stevenson and the two were great friends on into retirement.
