An undated Owlerton rental possibly 1741, shows William Broadhead and J. and T. Darwent holding ends of a wheel in Wisewood. Edwin Denton bought the site and rebuilt the wheel as Loxley Steel Works in about 1868, putting down five hammers and a forge, driven by three water wheels. John Denton is recorded in the Directories of 1876 and 1883. 1897 the occupier was Mary Denton and steam power was in use in 1907. 1931 the site was unoccupied and the 1935 O.S. map shows a reed-filled dam and no sigmn of the buildings.
