The occasion was Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. Text reads; 'Some of these people saw the flood' The enclosed photograph has been loaned by Mr. John Rider of 191, Main Street, Grenoside, who is one of the youngsters on the left of the photograph. His father and mother Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rider, who are also on the photograph, were the landlords of the Plough Inn, Bradfield, where this photograph was taken. Among local personalities of that day shown in the group are Mr. Thomas Wragg and his son George, Mr. George Elliott and his brother Charles, Mr. George Hawksworth (foreman), Mr. George Earnshaw, Mr. Jim Hatfield and his four sons Lewis, George, Admorall and Ted, Mr. George Hirst, Mr. George Fretwell and his three sons, George, Silvo and Bob, Mr. George Elliott of the shop at Low Bradfield, Mr. Jim Swift of Loxley, Mr Charles Kenyon of Loxley, Mr. Fred Wing of Bradfield Dale, Mr. S. Saddington Smallfield and Mr. John Littlewood. Mr. Rider has forgotten the names of the others, but no doubt many of their relatives will recognise them. Many of these men had personal experiences in the Bradfield Flood and it is the forthcoming anniversary of that event which has prompted Mr. Rider to look out this photograph.
