In 1807 Samuel Hall had a pawnbrokers shop in these premises. The shop was made into a brew house and the dwelling into the Barrel Inn. Under the landlord George Moss it became the Jolly Tar. It became the Chequers in 1816 and in 1827 it became The Vine Tavern. In the 1890s it was converted into the Policeman's Institute.
