lt;font size= 2 gt;The Oakes stands in the beautiful grounds of Oakes Park.The home of the noted Bagshawe family for nearly three hundred years.The present building was erected around 1670, but was completely remodelled by Sir William Chambers Bagshawe in tthe early 1800s.It was Sir William who stocked the fine rooms of the house.These included paintings by Watts, Stubbs and Dahl; furniture by Sheraton, Hepplewhite and Chippendale; plus beautiful glass and silverware.The Oakes has Adam ceilings and fireplaces, and some remarkable 15th Century tapestries. From the terrace, which was designed by Sir Francis Chantrey, at the front of the house, one has a vista of green parkland, while at the rear of the house are outbuildings and stables built of warm Derbyshire stone.
