This view represents the bridge at Hillsborough which was destroyed, except the one arch, seen in this engraving. Near to this bridge, a house occupied by one by the name of Whittles, presented an extraordinary spectacle. Another bridge, a few yards beyond was entirely swept away. The force of water may be judged of by the fact that huge stones that formed the parapet of the bridge were carried a considerable distance down the stream.
