A Farmhouse built 1760 by the Kay family, had by 1780 become the Barrel Inn with inn keeper Ann Kay. In 1840 son Joseph Kay became inn keeper, in 1841 he renamed it, The Ship. By 1911 it was the Club Inn with licensee Schofield Sykes, listed with Mother Elizabeth and Wife Annie Sykes born 1874 in Holmfirth, was in the pub trade from a young age, previously licensee at several others.

Club inn became a Grade 2 listed building 8-8-1985. Between 1992-2001 it was known as the Midhopestones Arms. After refurbishment it opened 2002 as Ye Olde Mustard Pot.
