Set up his own business as a draper in 1877. Overseer of the Brightside township and member of the Brightside Burial Board. Trustee of the Burngreave Road Congregationalist Church. Was appointed to the Sheffield Board of Guardians in 1901.

Resided at No. 42 Firshill Road.
