Date:01/07/2006
Date Period:2000-2019

Notes:

The original shelter was opened in 1932, in which was placed a stainless steel casket, given by Sir Robert Hadfield, containing the names of 4, 898 Sheffield men who had been killed. The original shelter had to be replaced after World War II, and the casket is now in the Mairie of Puisieux/Serre. The photograph shows Mr Bob Chapman and was taken during a visit to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme and to re-dedicate the Sheffield City Battalion Monument at Serre.
