Information from John A Thickitt, photographer: The returning Bradford to Poole (Dorset) express is waiting to leave Platform 2 with the 18.25 for Bradford via Barnsley. This service was a Saturdays-only holidaymakers' train running during the peak of the summer season.
During 1966 this seven or eight carriage train was always rostered for a Farnley (Leeds) shedded Jubilee, with 45562 the usual engine. On both out and return journeys there was a crew-change here. This was the last summer the train was steam-hauled.
On 28 October 1967 Alberta was in-steam for the last time. Perhaps appropriately for a long-time Leeds resident, this also became the last train hauled by a British Rail-operated Jubilee. The occasion, for part of the journey, hauling a railway-enthusiasts excursion (published photograph). |
