Title:Sheffield United reserve team XI, c. 1907
Location:Sheffield_St_Marys
Date Period:1900-1919
Notes:

Comments by Phil Martin, 2022: Sheffield United reserve team XI dating from the 1906 to 1909 period (the Stiffs).

Fatty Foulke/s had gone by 1905 and the other face that might be expected in this period in a first XI group is Nudger Needham, but he wouldn’t appear in a stiffs line-up.

A possible date could be at the end of the 1906-7 season when the stiffs won the Midland League.

The man on the far left is possibly John Nicholson, Sheffield United secretary, 1899-1932 and the tall man standing to the right is possibly the trainer, George Waller.

The ground is believed to be the Bramall Lane end of the recently completed John Street stand and not the prior stand which burnt down in 1901. The stand, railings, pathway etc all look quite new.

The goalkeeper is believed to Mark Mellors. Mellors was on the SU books for three seasons but only ever made one first team appearance.
