W.J. Foulke, the burly goalkeeper of Sheffield United, is remarkably smart between the sticks. He can take shots from all directions, and is very clever at clearing his lines. Probably the biggest and heaviest player in British football. In 1897 he played for England against Wales.

This image was originally part of the Tim Hale Photographic Collection. It was purchased at auction in September 2019 through donations from members of the public and a grant from the Graves Trust.
