Includes a lecture by Edward Carpenter, entitled Small Holdings and Life on the Land.

The general aims of the Sheffield Ethical Society were:

1. By purely natural and human means to help men to know, love, an do the right.

2 To emphasise the moral factor in all personal, political and international affairs.

3. To unite all, whether believers in theological or scientific explanation of the universe into one fellowship, the sole bond of union being the supreme claim upon us of the Ethical or Moral life - this claim resting on no system of supernatural rewards or punishments, but on the needs of man as a social and rational being.

4. To make the education of moral character our supreme object, and in furtherance thereof of insist on the systematic Moral training of the young.
