Title:A Johnson 3F freight train, dating from 1900, at Grimesthorpe Engine Sheds
Location:Sheffield
Date:1961/07
Date Period:1960-1979
Photographer:Kenneth Gray
Copyright::R B McCartney,
Notes:

The first members of this class were introduced in 1885; some of them were still in service in 1963! (as per 'abc British railways Locomotives, combined volume', pub. Ian Allan Ltd, 1963.)

Those surviving until the latter date would only have done so if they continued to be useful, perhaps on something local and specialist. This was the case with the Victorian, Johnson 0-6-0 tank engines then working at nearby Staveley Ironworks.
