Title:Thompson B1 61127 freight train leaking steam, taken whilst standing at platform 1 on a mixed goods train at Victoria Station.
Location:Sheffield
Date Period:1960-1979
Photographer:Kenneth Gray

Notes:

This photograph was taken against the background of the Royal Victoria Hotel, probably around 1961.

Further information from J A Thickitt: the two covered wagons behind the tender were known as 'vans' on the railway. Some had dedicated purposes, eg for carrying bananas. The photograph captures normal events of working engines: on top of the engine's cab steam oozed from the safety valves whilst at track level the wisps of steam at the front and beneath the cab were escaping from small-diameter pipes.
