Slate merchant and quarry merchant. Elected a member of the Sheffield Board of Guardians for Handsworth in 1891, latterly became the vice chairman of the Sheffield Board of Guardians. In 1893 he was elected a member of the West Riding County Council.

Resided at The Cottage, Handsworth.
