Herr Lutz was an architect and ex-Wehrmacht officer who was confined in Lodge Moor Prisoner of War Camp (Camp 17) September 1945 - April 1948. Whilst he was a prisoner of war he made several linocuts and watercolour sketches of the camp and the area around it. This scene may have been painted whilst Herr Lutz was working on Farms in the Tickhill area before repatriation to Germany. Although commissioned officers could not be compelled to undertake labour, many volunteered as an alternative to the routine of camp life.
