William Bates was born in Pitsmoor and later lived at No. 37 Loxley View Road. He worked at Firth Brown steelworks as a general labourer. He enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps as a territorial in December 1940 but was discharged in April 1941 on health grounds. |
