Rabbi-minister of the Sheffield Hebrew Congregation 1907-1947. He was President of the Talmud Torah Schools in Sheffield, and later Hon. Superintendent of the Hebrew Education Board, Secretary and Relieving Officer of the Board of Guardians for 38 years; Hon. President of the Sheffield Zionist Association, Young Zionists' and Students' Associations; Hon. President of the New Sheffield Jewish Centre; and an Executive Officer of the congregation's Chevra Kadisha. He founded the Past Worshipful Master of the Hadassah Lodge of Freemasons. Rabbi Cohen was a respected faith and civic leader in Sheffield, and helped develop Biblical studies at Sheffield University. Original at Sheffield City Archives JCA/1/2/8/10. |
