Daughter of William Wilson of Sherwood Hall, Mansfield, and youngest sister of Henry J. Wilson (1833-1914) of Osgathorpe Hills, Pitsmoor, Director of Sheffield Smelting Company, JP and radical Liberal MP for Holmfirth. She lived mostly in Leeds where she was one of the first female Guardians of the Poor. She was involved in the temperance movement and founded the 'British Workman Public Houses' which aimed to establish alcohol-free public houses for working men.
