Caption: Notice, on the left, schoolrooms of the Methodist Chapel. The fume condensing plant, the large stock of hard coal for the reverb furnaces Marrian's Yard on the right. In the middle distance are stone slated roofs of old farm buildings, and to their right a pair of houses converted to the 'Blue Shop'. At rear Royd’s Brewery. Even in those days urchins chalked on walls!'
