Lynwood Literary Club was founded in 1884 when 'eight gentleman met at Mr Terry's, 'Lynwood'' [26 Collegiate Crescent] to form a literary club to meet through the winter months.  Its objective was the advancement of its members in literary, scientific, social and general knowledge.  The first ordinary meeting took place in October 1884 at Lynwood.

Invitation reads:

The Committee and Members of the [Lynwood Literary Club] request the pleasure of your company to an evening convert, to be given on Monday, December 29th, at the German Pianoforte Agency, West Street, commencing at 7.30 pm.

Carriages for 10pm.

Committee: J. E. Breakey, F. W. Breakey, C. J. Collier, J.P. Collier, J. Henderson, W. T. Tasker, G. F. Terry, A. E. Turnell, W. Waterman.

Honorary Treasurer: C. J. Collier.

Honorary Secretary, George F. Terry, Lynwood, 26 Collegiate Crescent.
