On Tuesday 27th August work starts on the long-awaited first step of putting the river Sheaf back into Sheffield as part of the City Council’s project creating a new park on the site of the former Castle Markets in Castlegate.

The River Sheaf has been covered over at Castlegate for more than a century. Next week, work starts to open it up again. It’s part of the redevelopment of the former Castle Market site which will include the remains of the 12th century Sheffield Castle going on public display.
