The gateway of Thomas Firth and Sons Ltd was to the premises of Seimens Melting Shop of Norfolk Works (later Firth Browns Gate No. 30) and was relocated to this site in 1993 It originally stood further to to the east nearly opposite the junction of Windsor Street and Savile Street East. There is a plaque on the wall of The President Building Office Park formerly Firth Browns, Atlas Works, Head Office which reads: Atlas Works 1854. From these offices was once controlled the John Brown industrial empire. At its heightemploying 55,000 in coal, steel and ship building. The company locally were inovators in railway engineering and armour plating.
