The Boys Blue Coat Charity School was founded in 1706, 10 boys were taught in a room in Shrewsbury Hospital. Four years later a school was built by public subscription and in 1825 a larger school was erected on the same site in East Parade. In 1911 the School transferred to new buildings on Psalter Lane. The accommodation was for 100 fatherless or orphaned boys who were educated, maintained and clothed.
