Notes:

Article and photograph appeared in 'The Star' 31 July 1964 regarding the controversy over the subway. Residents of the flats at the Brook Hill end were split regarding a footpath leading to the subway which passed the flats; some were outraged at the lack of privacy, but many were concerned that without it (not built at this time and notices saying keep off the grass) it would mean a 200 yard trek into St. Philip's Road, along Brook Hill and back down by the side of the flats. Proved difficult for pensioners to get to Bolsover Street Post Office.
