Title:Manvers Road, Colliery Co. Houses built in early 1900's, Beighton
Location:Sheffield_Beighton
Date Period:1900-1919
Notes:

These houses were the ultimate luxury because they had a bath. Although it was considered bad for a person to wash his back. As one entered the kitchen door, the sink was behind the door under the window. At right angles to this was the bath covered by a wooden lid which served as a work area for washing and cooking. In the corner at the end of the bath was the wash-day boiler called the copper , with a pipe underneath. The bath had a drain and plug, but had to be filled from the copper. Often they were used to store cabbages or coal. The first house on this picture was barber George Brownfoot's, now Purdy's.
