Caption: 'One of three views of the Works as it was about 68 years ago, say 1888. Probably taken for Mr John Wycliffe Wilson to show to customers in the USA. The old mansion was divided into three cottages and let off. Behind the wall in the right foreground [sic] there was a way down to the tailgoit from the dam of Royds Mill, where carts and horses went for cooling purposes. The present Office, Warehouse and Assay Shop Block was built around 1902'.
Sign on the house reads 'Royds Silver Works'.
Sign on the right reads 'The Sheffield Smelting Co., Sweep Smelters and Bullion Dealers. Works established 1760.'
